An affiliation between the two nonprofit-senior-living providers, Aldersgate and Givens Communities, ensures long-term stability, strategic growth, and enhanced resident-centered care while preserving their missions and belief in vibrant, engaged aging.

Charlotte, N.C. (April 2,2025) – Aldersgate United Methodist Retirement Community in Charlotte, a nonprofit organization, has signed a letter of intent to affiliate with Asheville-based Givens Communities, a nonprofit organization, through a membership substitution, ensuring long-term stability and mission-driven growth for both organizations.
A membership substitution occurs when one nonprofit organization assumes governance responsibilities for another nonprofit organization. Under this affiliation, Givens Communities will provide financial support, governance, leadership, oversight, and strategic guidance to Aldersgate, ensuring its continued success while preserving its mission, services, and deep-rooted legacy in Charlotte.
Importantly, this is not a purchase or acquisition. Aldersgate remains a nonprofit organization, and daily life for residents and team members at both organizations will remain unchanged.

Givens Communities is a nonprofit senior living organization based in Asheville with a 50-year legacy of excellence in aging services. Givens serves multiple communities across Western North Carolina, dedicated to creating vibrant communities, advancing wellness, and fostering financial stewardship to support older adults in living purposeful, engaged lives. The affiliation transaction is projected to close in the third quarter of 2025.
