Neighborhood

Good neighbors

Aldersgate is deeply rooted in the broader community, and we love our neighbors. Here’s a listing of our favorite local attractions and neighborhoods.

Neighborhoods | Aldersgate - A Non-profit Life Plan Community

Neighborhoods

NoDa District
If you love independent restaurants owned by chefs, cute retail shops and places to gather, you’ll love the NoDa District. “NoDa” is short for North Davidson.

Central Avenue
Did you know that Charlotte is home to people who speak 280 different languages? Central Avenue is full of culture, foods and a celebration of our global village.

Restaurants | Aldersgate - A Non-profit Life Plan Community

Restaurants

Lang Van Vietnamese
Hands down, this is one of the best restaurants in East Charlotte and a regular stop for Aldersgate residents and team members. Sometimes twice a day! And it’s just down the street.

Portofino’s Italian Restaurant
Portofino’s in Charlotte was opened in 1996 by two childhood friends. Come enjoy family-style dining in their comfortable and welcoming dining room or at the bar.

Cafe & Bakery | Aldersgate - A Non-profit Life Plan Community

Cafés & Bakeries

Manolo’s Latin Bakery
Another Aldersgate favorite, Manolo’s is “birthday-cake central” for our community. Every resident receives a cake from Manolo’s, and we also coordinate with the ourBRIDGE for KIDS mentoring and literacy program to make sure each child has a cake on their birthday. This will become one of your favorite spots!

Cultural Attractions | Aldersgate - A Non-profit Life Plan Community

Cultural Attractions

Charlotte Museum of History
At the entrance of Aldersgate, the Charlotte Museum of History is a local treasure. Residents enjoy volunteering with CMH, visiting and attending special events.

Hezekiah Alexander Homesite
Located on the Aldersgate campus, the revolutionary war–era home of Hezekiah Alexander is on the grounds of the Charlotte Museum of History. Built in 1774, this two-story stone house is the oldest surviving structure in Mecklenburg County and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Nearby is a reconstructed log kitchen and stone springhouse.

Urban Farm at Aldersgate
Managed by the Carolina Farm Trust, our Aldersgate farm is seven beautiful acres of fruits and vegetables, and still growing.
