26 Nov Celebrating Thanksgiving at Aldersgate: A Season of Gratitude and Togetherness
As Thanksgiving approaches, the team at Aldersgate reflects with gratitude on the blessings of our residents, families and the broader community we serve. This season reminds us of the importance of connection, kindness and giving back. At Aldersgate, our Thanksgiving celebration is about more than a meal—it’s a time to appreciate life’s simple blessings, share memories and celebrate the bonds that make our community special. Moving to Aldersgate for the holidays means finding a warm, supportive community where shared traditions and new friendships make the season even more meaningful.
A Table Full of Tradition
Thanksgiving at Aldersgate is a cherished tradition, where residents and staff come together to enjoy a delicious meal prepared by our top-tier culinary team. Dinner is served in the beautiful Gatehouse Restaurant, where the inviting atmosphere enhances the experience of sharing this special occasion with friends and neighbors. It’s not just about the food—it’s about celebrating shared memories and deepening connections. Each table is filled with laughter, warmth and the sense that this is a place where everyone belongs.
Gratitude, In Every Moment
Gratitude is at the heart of everything we do. Residents express appreciation for the friendships they’ve formed, the support they receive and the vibrant environment they call home. These reflections remind us that there’s always something to be thankful for, no matter the season.
Community and Connection
At Aldersgate, we’re more than neighbors—we’re a family. Our sense of community extends beyond our residents to include dedicated staff, volunteers and everyone who contributes to the warmth and well-being of our home. Throughout the month, residents and staff come together for special events—crafts, games and music—that strengthen our bonds and create lasting memories.
Giving Back
This Thanksgiving, we celebrate the many ways Aldersgate gives back to our community. Programs like the Summer Literacy Camp, which pairs residents with children to build reading skills and the Bridges Mentoring Program, which pairs school-age students with older adults, are just a few of the ways we make a positive impact. We’re also proud to host the Carolina Farm Trust’s Urban Farm on our campus, which provides fresh produce to our neighbors and educates the larger community about sustainable urban farming.
Aldersgate has relationships with over 60 non-profits, providing residents with opportunities to engage in volunteerism, whether through the Charlotte Museum of History or other campus initiatives. We’re deeply thankful for the generosity of our donors, whose contributions have supported programs like the Horizon Fund, Guardian Angel Fund and Legacy Fund, ensuring that Aldersgate can continue serving older adults for generations to come.
One of the most meaningful ways we give back is through our partnership with Refugee Support Services and OurBRIDGE for Kids. This year, we are coming together to participate in the Merry Market, a heartwarming event that empowers parents to select and purchase holiday gifts for their children at discounted prices. Serving families from across the globe, the goal this year is to provide gifts to more than 300 children on December 14. This special event would not be possible without the generous support of donors like you. We invite you to browse our wishlist and contribute to the Myers Park UMC Missions: Merry Market by November 30, helping us spread joy and make the holidays brighter for these families.
Looking Ahead with Hope
As we gather this Thanksgiving, we do so with a sense of optimism and hope for the future. The holiday season is a time to renew our spirits, reflect on the past year and embrace new opportunities. At Aldersgate, we’re grateful for every moment shared and we look forward to what lies ahead.
From all of us at Aldersgate, we wish you a joyful, peaceful Thanksgiving filled with gratitude, laughter and the warmth of family and friends.
